Murfreesboro now has a Pita Pit! As their Menu states: “Ditch the burgers and subs along with the higher carbs and fat!” For a nice change of pace from the regular food fare offered in Murfreesboro, why not try a “build your own PITA!?” I have tried the Chicken Souvlaki and the Turkey. Both of which were very excellent, tasty, filling and reasonably priced. I opted for the cucumber dressing with the Souvlaki and added; lettuce, tomato, onion, jalapeno slices, cheddar cheese on white pita bread. For the Turkey, I chose the blue cheese dressing with the same additions as above, again on white. A friend has tried the Felafel with hummus, avocado, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions and feta cheese, oh and with Blue Cheese dressing on wheat. She said she found it to be exceptionally good and is already planning to “drag” her boyfriend in for more great food! Another friend has tried the Chicken Souvlaki on wheat with sour cream and added: black beans, romaine lettuce, tomatoes and feta cheese! She also found it to be very good, filling and delicious. Believe she is already thinking about her next trip there.
The Pita Pit is located at:
2943 South Rutherford Blvd. Suite A

This is the little strip mall between Taco Bell/Mellow Mushroom and Starbucks on Rutherford across from DQ.
Hours: Sun – Thur 10:00AM – 2:00AM (yep, open late!)
Fri to Sat 10:00AM – 4:00AM
They deliver within a five mile radius for a $2.00 delivery charge.
Just checked out a new Tex-Mex Restaurant in the Wal-Mart Shopping Center over on Rutherford Blvd. It is located next to the Daily Buffet and Grill (Chinese Cuisine). They have been open for about two months now and are reportedly an offshoot (one of the brothers) from the Camino Real family here in town.
My first visit was on Friday, 3 Aug and I was very pleased with the service and my meal. The staff were very friendly, helpful and provided very attentive service. I tried their “Potato Fajitas” and found the meal to be not only tasty but very filling. I have tried different Fajita meals and variations over the years but this was the first time Fajitas over a baked potato. Very pleasing and very tasteful. Price is compatible to other restaurants’ similar meals.
Was told by my server that they do offer a discount to MTSU students, faculty and staff, I have not been able to verify this as of this writing. More later!
If you really enjoy and are interested in Tex-Mex Cuisine, give em a try.

Tokyo Grill now delivers!!!

Since my first entry, I have tried their Hibachi Chicken and Steak and found it to be very good. It came with fried rice and mixed vegetable (zucchini, onions and carrots). The Hibachi sauce was good albeit kinda like a weak Thousand Island dressing with no pickle chips. Both the small chicken bits and steak bits were tender and delicious. May ask for a spicier sauce next time. The person who took my order mentioned something about other sauces.
There is a new, small takeout/Dine-in restaurant near MTSU. Coming from MTSU on S. Rutherford Blvd, it is located in the little strip mall next to the Subway. This strip mall is just before you get to the Taco Bell which is near the corner of Mercury Blvd and S. Rutherford. (The intersection where the traffic camera’s are located.) While I have not personally tried their cuisine, their menu is very inviting and is on my list of places to try.
They do not seem to have many tables. I could only see two through the front windows. Seating looks to be limited.

There is a new Greek Cafe in the Boro! Located at 2441 Old Fort Parkway in the Kroger Shopping Center, Cason Lane Side, across the street from the Theaters. They offer a nice variety of items on their menu, from wraps to platters. I enjoyed a Gyro wrap with fries, drink and Baklave dessert for under $10. I found the meat to be tender, juice and very flavorable. I will definitely try the Souvlaki Plate on my next visit.
The service was a bit different in that you order at the main counter then pick up you meal when they have it ready, so be prepared to “serve” yourself. They offer a 10% discount to Seniors, Verizon Employees and MTSU Students. I did not ask about a discount for MTSU Faculty and Staff. If you enjoy good Greek food, you will like the Greek Cafe Grill. Be sure to pick up a menu as they have some nice coupons inside.

There is a new meat and three in town, Farmer’s Family Restaurant. It is located in the same strip mall as Office Max and the Outback Restaurant. They have been open since the end of February, I believe. The decor is rustic in that it resembles knotty pine logs and it cares the theme very well. The food is mouthwatering, hot, and plentiful at the very least. I have found all the food to be seasoned very well and not to be overbearing in any area. I especially love their sweet potatoes, corn and black-eyed peas. Their diner rolls are very fluffy and light, baked to perfection and hard to put down. the Desert area includes a wide selection including several sugar free items for all of us diabetics. They have a children’s area with several children’s favorites like chicken tenders, french fries, mac and cheese and of course chicken nuggets to name a few. They provide an excellent salad bar with tons of toppings and fresh, crisp lettuce for those wishing the “rabbit trip” through the garden.
Exceptionally well worth a trip for lunch although it is not close to Campus. They have been very busy during weekday lunch when I have been there, although it is getting less full during lunch. The average wait has been about 15 minutes. As expected the lunch prices are very reasonable, while the dinner prices are slightly higher but still within reason. Great place for a noisy, full free for all meal by yourself, a group or a family dining outing.
***The only issue I have had so far is that during the first opening days, I did have a few Black-eyed Peas that could have used a bit more cooking. Try it out, let me know if you like or dislike Farmer’s!!! Please be specific in your comments.

Italian Restaurant and Pizza –
This chain Restaurant is located in the old Shoney’s location on Broad St. The chain is in Florida, Georgia, Kentucky and Tennessee. Several people have stated that they really enjoyed their meals there and I am always game for good Italian. Will post more after I have had a chance to check out their cuisine.
UPDATE: 11 NOV 2011 :
I have now had an opportunity to eat lunch at the Gondolier and am very impressed with not only the service but also my meal. I had the Gyro Platter and was totally amazed at the quality, quantity and marvelous tastes. The Gyro meat was tender, well seasoned and melted in my mouth. The Greek salad with Feta cheese was superb and the whole meal was well worth the $7.99 lunch price. I opted for fries instead of rice or spaghetti and this plate comes with pita bread. Speaking of bread, the Homemade bread sticks with marinara sauce were exceptional. The bread sticks were lightly toasted and very soft and hot. My daughter enjoyed a very nice sized plate of spaghetti and found it to be very delicious and tasteful, as I did my meal.
Well worth a trip for lunch as it is not too far from Campus and the lunch prices are very reasonable. Prices for dinner are slightly higher of course but still within reason. Great place for a quite lunch by yourself, a group or a family dinner outing.
If you are looking for a great place for anything Smoked, Bar-B-Qued or Grilled then KirkenBurt’s is your place. They offer ribs, chicken, beef, Kielbasa, ham … hey when is the last time you had smoked Bologna? The atmosphere is causual, down home southern and the service is excellant! I personally have tried the Chicken Tenders and found them to be superb and cooked to perfection. I have heard comments that the Po’ Boys are really good. Oh, did I mention they have shrimp, clams, catfish, chicken oyster and roast beef Po’ Boys? They also provide about a dozen angus beef specialty burgers like the Bubba Burger, Pizza Burger and Mexican Burger to name just a few. Kirkenburt’s is well worth the trip.

They may be small but some people feel they provide much more appetizing food than other similar, larger Resturants. I personally have not had the opportunity to partake of their cuisine but plan to do so in the very near future.
Location: On S. Church St next to the Cathay Asian Bistro which is next to the Ramada Inn Motel.
